New Salem Special Town Meeting rescheduled for Feb. 9

NEW SALEM — The Special Town Meeting that was originally slated for Jan. 12 has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 9.

The meeting had to be postponed because it was not posted with the legally required 14 days’ notice. The meeting includes an article that asks voters if they wish to confirm the results of last year’s town election, which was found to not have been properly posted in accordance with state law.

Most of the warrant’s remaining articles pertain to the Highway Department. Highway Superintendent Colin Killay said the eight articles he had added to the warrant are necessary to stabilize the budget “so we can continue working in the spring.”

Most of the 14 articles involve moving money from free cash to the Highway Department’s general expenses account for various purchases and services. Article 2 asks residents for $83.10 to pay a prior year’s bill for uniforms for the department’s three employees.

The full warrant is available at tinyurl.com/NewSalemSTM2. For more information, contact Town Coordinator Emily Hill at towncoordinator@newsalemma.org or 978-544-6437.
