Ashfield selects artists for Lighted Boat Parade

ASHFIELD — The town of Ashfield has selected 12 artists that will decorate the boats for the Lighted Boat Parade on Sept. 12. According to a press release from the town, these artists hail from Ashfield, western Massachusetts, the Greater Boston area and southern Vermont. An independent five-person board reviewed 17 proposals.

These 12 artists were each awarded a $1,000 grant to complete their project. Ashfield received this money from the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) Making It Public for Municipalities Program, as well as other sponsors such as the Greenfield Savings Bank, Ashfield Trails Inc., The Mill at Shelburne Falls and Ashfield Lake House.

In addition to the 12 boats decorated by the artists, a mishoon created in Ashfield’s Belding Memorial Park will lead the boats in the lake. Other details about the itinerary and logistics will be released in July.
