Tyler finished with three hits and five RBIs in the victory. Emily Young and Juliana Rode added two hits apiece, as Turners (2-0, 2-0) led 6-0 into the bottom of the fourth inning.

Pioneer 7, Mohawk Trail 3 — A six-run second inning provided more than enough offense for Pioneer, which moved to 2-0 on the young season behind a 7-3 victory over Mohawk Trail in Hampshire League East action Monday in Northfield.

After a shutout win against Smith Academy last week, the Panthers continued to pitch well in Monday’s victory. Jason Quinn struck out five in four scoreless innings before Ian Simpson and Troy Emond sealed the deal out of the bullpen.

“We’ve got three or four different guys who have been throwing strikes for us, getting us through innings,” Pioneer coach Jordan Branson lauded.

Jared Hubbard tripled and drove in a run for Pioneer, while the hosts got production from its entire lineup as Dylan Fisher and Peter Loud each drove in runs during the six-run second.

Mohawk Trail’s Cam Lococo singled and drove in a run, while Tyler Dubreuil also had a hit.

Athol 7, Smith Academy 2 — Noah Pottinger made an impact with his bat and his arm on Monday.

The senior dinged three hits — knocking in a pair of runs — while getting the win on the mound after not allowing a run and striking out six in five innings of work to lead the Bears to a 7-2 victory at home in a Hampshire League East showdown.

Just about the entire Athol lineup found its way into the hit column, as Dilan Fountain, Connor Mahony, Quentin Polana, Jack Bonenfant, Evan Mayer, Logan Hume and Casey Mason all hit safely in the win. Fountain, Bonenfant and Mayer each tallied an RBI.

Fountain struck out three over two innings.
