MONTAGUE — The Montague Police Department reminded its residents of a service the department provides for people with special conditions this week on Facebook.
The department has had a form that residents can fill out if a loved one has a condition like dementia that may cause them to wander or pose a danger to themselves or to others. Any member of the community can fill a form out, and can attach a photo and drop it off at the Police Department, where it will be kept and can be used in case of an emergency.
“The form provides the police with helpful information about your loved one ahead of time which allows them to respond quickly using techniques that have the highest likelihood of leading to a successful outcome,” the post said.
The form is titled “Persons with Special Conditions” and is available on the department’s website or at the department.
“Having important information available ahead of time could make a difference,” the post said.
The Post was shared about 45 times and many comments in return thanked the department for the service and commended them.
Montague Police Chief Chip Dodge said he created the form in January of 2014.
“I had learned through trainings and experience that it would be helpful to have this information on file in advance of responding to a call for help,” he said.
Since it had been a while since the department introduced the form, he wanted to remind those of the service. He said the department currently has about a half a dozen on file and are hoping to see more submitted with the reminder.
