DEERFIELD — Officers placed under arrest a 20-year-old on drug and motor vehicle charges Tuesday morning.
At 1:20 a.m. on Greenfield Road, a man was stopped for his vehicle not being inspected. Officers then found a gun and what they said was a small amount of a Class C drug, according to Deerfield Police officer Adam Sokoloski.
The man, whose identity will be public when he appears in court March 8, was charged with intent to distribute, in addition to motor vehicle violations. In addition to the Class C drugs, he had a scale and small bags, which would indicate a desire to sell, Sokoloski said. The man allegedly had what police think is a starter pistol that only shoots blanks. It was sent to the ballistics lab to determine if the gun is in fact a starter pistol and whether it could be easily turned into a gun that could shoot bullets, Sokoloski said.
What concerns police is that it looks like a real gun.
“If you pointed that at somebody, a store clerk or a homeowner, they would be in fear of their life,” Sokoloski said.
