SHELBURNE — A crash involving a box truck and a motorcycle resulted in the motorcyclist being airlifted to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after being taken by ambulance from the crash site to a landing zone on Dragon Hill Road.

According to Shelburne Falls Fire District Deputy Chief Jake Purinton, the crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. at the end of State Street, where the road connects with Route 2. He said the motorcycle collided with the side of the box truck.

Purinton noted there was a “significant language barrier” when trying to communicate with the injured motorcyclist. The motorcycle, which Purinton described as a “sport bike, suffered extensive front-end damage, while the man suffered a possible head injury.

Responding agencies included the Shelburne Police, Charlemont Police and Conway Police departments, along with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and Colrain EMS, with Purinton saying all available units in the area responded to the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
