No Name Hoops took down Brattleboro, 73-55, to claim the DRIVE Hoops League Men’s League championship on Thursday at Greenfield High School.

The veteran-laden squad received an infusion of youth and elite scoring ability on this year’s roster. Greenfield High School’s Jon Breor and Grayson Thomas joined the team and helped the group to another championship. Both players scored over 1,000 points during their career at Greenfield.

Breor pounded the paint to score 11 points for No Name. Grayson Thomas played an excellent complimentary role, doing a lot of work off the ball and finishing with 19 points.

No Name’s offense ran through Chris Brown, who led the team with 27 points. No Name jumped ahead with around 10 minutes to play in the second half. Brendan Rios grabbed a steal and fed Thomas for a breakaway to give No Name a 64-50 with around seven minutes remaining. It was the biggest lead of the game until that point.

No Name made its free throws to seal the win.

Franklin Tech 53, Mohawk 29 — Mason Bassett (eight points) and Cole Bassett (11 points) led the Eagles to a victory over the Warriors in DRIVE Hoops varsity action at Greenfield High School on July 21. Cole Cross scored 12 points for Mohawk.

Greenfield 48, Athol 35 — Greenfield outlasted Athol behind Casey Burke’s 18 points. Davian Bala added 12 points for Greenfield. Alex Calo scored 10 points for Athol.

Brattleboro 79, Hadley 32 — Hunter Smith (17 points) and Dawson Wheeler (15 points) both reached double-figures in the win for Brattleboro. Kevin Matuzko scored 13 points for Hadley.

Franklin County Softball League

Fury 10, Bombers 1 — The Fury secured the championship with the win over the Bombers at Murphy Park on July 22. Tianna Moise-Valdez had two hits and four RBIs in the victory. Alison Kajka won in the circle. Kajka gave up one hit in seven innings with nine strikeouts. Charlie Lovett and added a hit and two runs scored for the Fury. Leah Batiste also had a hit. Sienna LaFlesh went 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Bombers.

Youth Baseball

The Greenfield Ducks 12-U squad went 3-0 in pool play in the Belchertown Green Monster Tournament and will play in the semifinal round on Saturday as the top-seed. The game is at 11:30 a.m. at Hulmes-Warner Mini-Fenway in Belchertown.

Greenfield 17, Agawam 0 (four innings) — Greenfield run-ruled Agawam on July 22. Sean Winslow and Collin Winslow combined four hits and six RBI. Owen Castine 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs. Bryce Urkiel and Miles Williams (two RBIs) both tallied two hits. Anthony Ruggeri, Elijah Lawler, Brooks Williams, and Yusef Bensen all had hits for Greenfield. Collin Winslow dominated on the mound, throwing all four innings without allowing a hit with eight strikeouts.

Greenfield 12, Belchertown 0 (four innings) — Miles Williams tossed a no-hitter with seven strikeouts in the run-rule win for the Ducks on Jul 22. Anthony Ruggeri (RBI), Sean Winslow (two RBIs), Brooks Williams (two RBIs) all tallied hits. Collin Winslow went 3-for-3 with three RBIs for Greenfield. 

Greenfield 9, Northampton 1 — Sean Winslow had three hits and three runs scored for the Ducks in the win on July 19. Anthony Ruggeri, Owen Castine, and Kaydin Snow-Rose all had hits and runs scored runs. Elijah Lawler and Brooks Williams (double) both had RBI hits. 

Golf

Keith Burch placed first at the Pub Links qualifier at Chicopee Country Club on July 21. Burch, representing Crumpin-Fox Club, shot a 70 (-1). Burch took the victory over Tyler Cleary by a stroke. He finished with three birdies and two bogies on the 18-hole course.

Liberty Tax Sharks 10, Hot-L 4 —Che Christi, Trevor Thomas and Cody Willor (three RBIs) had three hits each in the win for the Sharks on July 22. Thomas had two triples in the game. Ashley Podlesny had three hits for Hot-L.
