NEW SALEM — A small private plane was forced to make an emergency landing on a sandbar in the Quabbin Reservoir Tuesday afternoon after the pilot reported having engine trouble to state police.
State Police Spokesman David Procopio said the single-engine plane landed in the northern part of the reservoir, within the boundaries of the town of New Salem. The plane landed upright and the pilot did not sustain any injuries. Procopio said he does not believe there were any other passengers in the plane.
State Police will transport the pilot off the sandbar by boat and Procopio said a determination has yet to be made about how the plane will be removed. No information was available about where the plane was traveling to or from.
