The Frontier Regional girls soccer team lost to Southwick, 2-1, at Herlihy Field on Friday afternoon. The Rams represented a good early test for the Redhawks. Southwick made it all the way to the MIAA Division 4 state semifinals last season.
Michaela Masciadrelli scored in the first half to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. Later in the half, Adelaide Ehle got loose along the left sideline before sending a precision pass to Skyler Steele. The senior striker finished the breakaway to tie the game for the Redhawks.
Masciadrelli scored on a direct kick in the second half to seal the win for the Rams.
Olivia Gagne had an assist for Southwick. Jazzy Hayes made 14 saves for Frontier, including a diving save in the first half that saved a goal.
Golf
Frontier 177, Pioneer 178 — The Redhawks won against the Panthers due to a tiebreaker at Cherry Hill Golf Course. Braiden Dion shot a 41 for Frontier. Weston Jones carded a 39 for the Panthers.
Franklin Tech 151, Turners Falls 187 — Jack Day shot a 34 for the Eagles in the win over the Thunder at Thomas Memorial. Brady Wood finished with a 36 for Franklin Tech. Liam Kerivan shot a 45 for the Thunder.
Quabbin 180, Athol 232 —The Bears fell to Quabbin in an independent matchup at Quail Hollow Golf and Country Club. Owen Stodard shot a 41 for the Bears.
Field hockey
Frontier 8, Turners Falls 0 — Seven players scored for the Redhawks in the independent road win over the Thunder. Addie Harrington, Rowan Reilly, Elsa Brown, Harper Modestow, Brynna Fahey, Michaela Sloan and Logen Goddard all scored for Frontier.
Goddard picked up two goals in the win. Haly Doucette-Kaplan had two assists. Grace Puchlaski added another assist for the Redhawks.
Mohawk 6, Palmer 1 — Jayda Waters had a hat trick in the road win for the Warriors. Waters added an assist in the victory. Ellie Runinaccio, Molly Ross and Katelyn Bozek also scored for the Warriors. Heidi Helenek chipped in with a couple assists.
West Springfield 9, Mahar 0 — The Terriers were too much for the Senators at the Woodward Complex. Bella Burnett made 12 saves for Mahar.
Volleyball
Frontier 3, Minnechaug 0 — Aimee Talbot had 14 kills and seven aces for the Redhawks in the sweep of the Falcons in South Deerfield. Set scores were 25-19, 25-14, 25-22. Avah Spearance added seven kills while Kesenia Miller added four aces.
Athol 3, Turners Falls 0 — The Bears swept the Thunder at Mallet Gymnasium in a Western contest. Set scores were 25-21, 25-20, 25-10. Giana Vaillancourt had four kills, six assists and seven digs. Maddie Desrosiers added four kills for the Bears. Morgan Brailey led the offense with seven kills. Abby Moffatt had six digs for the Thunder. Autumn Thornton added two kills, five digs and two aces.
