MONTAGUE — Following a car crash on Greenfield Road, a 45-year-old Montague woman helped pull the driver from the vehicle.

According to Police Lt. Christopher Bonnett of the Montague Police Department, the accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday. A 23-year-old woman from Montague was driving a Nissan Altima south on Greenfield Road when she veered off the right side of the road and into the ditch.

“The initial report that we got reported that the car was on fire, but it wasn’t on fire when we got there and the Fire Department didn’t find a fire,” Bonnett said.

The vehicle came to rest on its passenger side near 74 Greenfield Road, making it difficult for the driver to crawl out. Bonnett said a good Samaritan stopped and helped the driver from the crashed Altima.

“It’s nice to hear that somebody stopped to help them instead of just driving by,” Bonnett said.

Bonnett said the operator made it out with minor bumps and bruises, and was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield. The cause of the accident remains unknown.

The vehicle also hit a fire hydrant, according to Turners Falls Fire Chief John Zellmann. The Turners Falls Fire Department was called in to repair it.
