COLRAIN — To improve its ability to communicate with patients, vendors and partners, Colrain Ambulance has established a core phone number for all ambulance service business.
The new telephone number is 413-223-9212.
“The core number will allow callers to directly forward to billing via an extension, along with establishing individual phone extensions for each member of the board of directors and the service director,” said ambulance Director Gary Ponce.
There will also be a general information extension that will be forwarded to an available member whenever Ponce is not available.
SHELBURNE FALLS — It’s going to be a Dude-Fest at Pothole Pictures on Friday and Saturday as the Coen Brothers’ 1998 cult bowling-noir masterpiece “The Big Lebowsi” is screened, accompanied by some bowling-related (and White Russian-related) extras.
Both nights, anyone wearing a bowling shirt, or dressed as his or her favorite character from the film, will get a free bag of popcorn.
On Saturday, for all the Little Lebowski Urban Achievers out there, as well as for the rest of us, there will be the chance to win some fabulous prizes at the “pop-quiz” (for which “Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man,” will be considered an acceptable answer, if you’re not into that whole brevity thing) and for the best costume and bowling shirt.
On Saturday, there will be an after-film party at the Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley where anyone in the aforementioned bowling shirt or costume will be given a free string of bowling. Virgin White Russians will be served at the theater on Saturday, as well.
“So, please help us tie the room together and come early at 6:45 — both nights — when the frost heaves, and the Dude abides (that’s a band — a really, really good one) will play unique full-band covers of songs from the Lebowski soundtrack (ya think they might play some Creedence?),” says Fred DeVecca of Pothole Pictures.
The film itself starts at 7:30.
The theater is located at 51 Bridge St. in Shelburne Falls. Admission is $4 for kids, $6 for adults, or one pre-paid advance season ticket. For more info, call 413-512-0850.

HEATH — After raising at least $6,000 of its $10,000 goal, the Heath Veterans Memorial Committee is hoping to start construction of a stone wall that will encompass a future town memorial to its veterans from the Revolutionary War on.
According to co-chairman Robert Bourke, the town is planning to place the memorial on the town common, behind the flagpole.
Besides raising money, the committee hopes that residents will donate appropriately sized stones from their land to become part of the fence.
“Hopefully, we’ll have the wall done by this summer,” said Bourke.
The memorial design, which was worked on by students of the Conway School of Landscape Design, will feature five large stones, preferably quartz stones, spaced between four stone wall sections. The large stones will have plaques naming those who entered military service from Heath. The largest cost, said Bourke, will be the engraved plaques. Currently there is one stone, which has the name of World War II-era veterans on it.
“We’re going to incorporate that as one of our stones,” Bourke said.
The group hopes to break ground on the memorial in May, with volunteer help from townspeople. A tax deductible donation may be sent to: Veterans Memorial Fund Campaign, c/o Kris Nartowicz, Treasurer, Town of Heath, 1 East Main St., Heath, MA 01346.
