SHELBURNE FALLS — The Shelburne Falls Fire District has placed mandatory restrictions on all nonessential outdoor water use between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. until further notice, due to water flow conditions in the North River, near the village’s wells.
When the flow is less than 44.5 cubic feet per second (CFS) for three consecutive days, state law requires the district to restrict water use.
Nonessential outdoor water use includes: the use of sprinklers or soakers to water lawns (hand-held hoses are allowed); washing vehicles other than at a commercial car wash; and washing of building exteriors, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks.
When the stream flow is above 44.5 CFS for seven days in a row, the restrictions will be lifted. Those with questions may call the Water Department at 413-625-6392.
