May 9: Church to host ‘Seconds Sale’
GREENFIELD — The Second Congregational Church invites the community to its “Seconds Sale” on Saturday, May 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. on the church lawn at Court Square. Attendees can browse a wide selection of gently used items, including clothing, housewares, books, jewelry, games and more.
In addition, raffle tickets will be available for seven different themed gift baskets. Three tickets cost $5. Ticket sales will continue each Saturday until the drawing on June 13.
Blessed Trinity Rosary Society hosting sale
GREENFIELD — The Blessed Trinity Rosary Society will hold its annual spring Tag, Book, Linen, Raffle and Bake Sale on Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church’s Father Casey Hall, located at 135 Main St.
DVDs, VHS tapes, jewelry, linens, books, household items and more will be available. There is a $1 bag sale on Saturday at noon. Attendees are asked not to come early.
Money raised will help support community meals, church activities, Warm the Children, Salvation Army, Keep Christ in Christmas, Stone Soup Cafe and other charities.
City to host disaster planning, preparedness event
GREENFIELD — The city invites residents to join the Fire Department, the Emergency Management Department and other local officials for an informational event geared toward people with disabilities, older adults, their families and advocates on Tuesday, May 12, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the John Zon Community Center.
The goal of the event is to help residents better prepare for emergencies or natural disasters by fostering communication and a better understanding of the barriers and needs of people with disabilities and older adults. Communication barriers, means of egress, and other needs and challenges will be discussed. The city will also share information on two free programs for residents that help provide crucial information to first responders in the event of a fire or other emergency at their home: Greenfield Community Connect (communityconnect.io/info/ma-greenfield) and the 911 Disability Indicator (tinyurl.com/911DisabilityIndicator)
The event is hosted by the Greenfield Community & Economic Development Department with funding from a $14,339 Massachusetts Office on Disability grant and Mass in Motion. Refreshments will be provided and emergency preparedness handouts will be available. Registration is not required, but attendees are encouraged to RSVP at tinyurl.com/DisasterPlanningMay12.
Egmont Ensemble members to perform on May 13
GREENFIELD — The next Bach’s Lunch concert at the Episcopal Church of Saints James and Andrew, 8 Church St., will take place on Wednesday, May 13, at 12:15 p.m. Egmont Ensemble members Naomi Lesley and Jessica Corwin, violin; Sonya Lawson, viola; and Philip Helzer, cello, will perform music for string quartet.
The program will consist of two established favorites in the string quartet repertoire, Mozart’s “Dissonance Quartet” and Antonín Dvořák’s “American Quartet,” as well as a contemporary work, “Fast Blue Village 2,” composed in 2007 by Elena Kats-Chernin.
The concert is free. Audience members are invited to bring their own lunch to eat during the performance.
