If a historic achievement occurs on the road, sometimes there is a second celebration with the home fans. The South Deerfield community honored Max Millette’s 1,000-point milestone for the Frontier Regional boys basketball team at Goodnow Gymnasium on Friday night.

Prior to the Redhawks’ Hampshire North contest against Mahar Regional, Millette got the local treatment for his recent milestone in front of a large home crowd.

Millette received the game ball from Athol where he reached the achievement. The entire team signed the basketball. He also received a plaque from Frontier coach Josh Morse. Millette also got a framed game jersey from his junior season.

“Every year we start with a big home opener,” Millette said. “It was the best with all my friends there. “

The Redhawks (3-1, 2-0 Hampshire North) went on to beat the Senators, 60-34. Millette scored 14 points. Alex Gray led the Redhawks with 18 points.

Hunter Brooks scored 15 points for Mahar. Trevor Odenbaugh added eight points for the Senators (1-2, 1-1 HN).

Smith Academy 58, Franklin Tech 55 – The Eagles could not hold on to a double-digit lead in the loss to the Falcons in Hatfield.

Smith Academy outscored Franklin Tech, 21-6, in the fourth quarter of the independent match up. Franklin Tech (2-3) had three players in double figures with Hunter Donahue leading the way with 20 points.

Nolyn Stafford scored 16 points with Landen Benz chipping in with 10.

Girls basketball

Smith Vocational 51, Turners Falls 21 – The Thunder dropped their fourth straight against the Vikings at home in a Tri-County North match up.

Ivy Lopez scored 14 points for the Thunder (0-4, 0-2 TCN)
