At 11 a.m. on the 11th day of each month church bells will peal at All Souls Church for 11 minutes. The bells ring to signal that we are in the “11th Hour” as our window of opportunity to address catastrophic effects of climate change is rapidly closing. All Souls joins with houses of worship throughout Greenfield, Franklin County, the commonwealth, and towns and cities across the U.S. to sound the alarm and warn our citizens of the urgent need for action. This national initiative involves a growing number of faith-based communities as part of an interfaith effort to live our beliefs: to love our neighbor; to care for our children; and to protect God’s creation.
We take these actions to express love, to sustain hope, and to acknowledge the interdependence of all beings. Faith groups motivated to join this initiative can find information at many internet sites including: 11thhourcalling.org, uua.org, and ucc.org. Through collective effort we can still slow, or perhaps even prevent the worst effects of climate change. When you hear the church bells toll, we hope you will reflect on small lifestyle changes that can aggregate to make a significant impact — and consider joining us on the corner of Hope and Main streets.
