GREENFIELD — Madison Lemay selected a highly opportune moment for the first varsity home run of her varsity softball career on Thursday night. Lemay’s blast to left-center in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Greenfield softball team a 2-1 walk-off win over Franklin Tech at Vets Field.

The moment came just after Lemay thought she had walked and earned a free pass to first base. After trotting back to the batter’s box, Lemay leveled up her swing and won the game for the Green Wave (6-9). The big hit came on the night the team honored seniors Meghan Collins and Sophia Rotkiewicz on Senior Night.

“It was really good because we really wanted to win this game,” Lemay said.

Olivia Lemay had an effective outing in the circle for the Green Wave, striking out eight hitters. Madison Lemay gave her sister the win with her clutch hit.

“It’s always good to help Liv out,” Lemay said. “She pushed through today. Didn’t think she was going to make it through with her back but she pushed through and did really good. It felt really good to help her.”

Brayleigh Burgh also had a solid outing in the circle for the Eagles. Burgh gave up only five hits with two strikeouts in her outing. Burgh lost some control in the third inning, giving up four walks. Lindsey Taylor had an RBI single in the top half of the inning, giving Franklin Tech a 1-0 lead.

Rotkiewicz drew a walk with the bases loaded to drive in a run for the Green Wave. The run tied the game for Greenfield. Burgh got Collins to ground out to end the threat.

Franklin Tech threatened again in the six inning after singles from Burgh and Breanna Kempf but couldn’t capitalize. In the bottom of the fifth, Kayden Viencek and Grace Laurie had back-to-back singles but Greenfield also could not make anything out of the opportunity.

Rider and Tyler had stolen bases for Franklin Tech.
