MONTAGUE — Two minors were uninjured in a vehicle rollover accident along Old Northfield Road on Monday afternoon, according to Montague Center Fire Chief David Hansen.

The Montague Center Fire Department, Montague Police Department and an American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance responded to the call at around 2 p.m. Upon arrival, Hansen said, personnel found the involved silver Nissan Versa had rolled onto its side, the back end hooking a tree. Both of the vehicle’s occupants, Erving residents who attend Franklin County Technical School, escaped the vehicle unassisted prior to emergency response.

“All we know is they were attempting to come around this corner up here and somehow lost control,” said Hansen, referencing a small bend in the dirt road that cuts through the Montague Plains Wildlife Management Area.

The driver reported he lost control in an attempt to avoid hitting a small animal that “darted out.”

Both occupants wore seatbelts. Not reporting any injuries, they declined medical transport. Due to being minors, their parents approved the refusal, Hansen said.

Airbags did not deploy during the crash, Hansen said. The vehicle was towed by Rau’s Sunoco Service.
