The Klines will bring the authentic sounds of Appalachian coal-mining songs and front-porch music to the 1794 Meetinghouse in New Salem on Saturday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. Michael and Carrie Kline deliver powerful country harmony duets on guitar and vocals, weaving together moving family stories and odes to immigrants that invite the audience to dance and sing along. Backed by Joe Blumenthal on double bass and Jim Armenti on high-powered mandolin, the quartet creates a deeply resonant musical experience. Ahead of the performance, a special pre-show meet-and-greet with the artists will take place at 6:30 p.m. across the street at the Old Academy Building. Tickets are available for $20 for adults and $15 for youth ages 13 to 17, while children 12 and under are admitted free of charge.

Western Massachusetts mixed-media artist Madge Evers will celebrate her new book, “Printing with the Sun: Capturing the Beauty of Nature with Cyanotypes,” with a book launch and workshop on Sunday, June 28, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Roundabout Bookstore, located at 55 Pierce St. in Greenfield. Published by Storey Publishing, the step-by-step guide explores the simple sun-printing process using leaves, ferns and experimental techniques like soap bubbles. Copies of the $35 hardcover book are available for purchase. Attendees can secure a spot by emailing madge@madgeevers.com, though drop-ins are also welcome.

Tilton Library to host a Pyraminx Speedcubing workshop

The Tilton Library in South Deerfield will host a Pyraminx Speedcubing Workshop on Saturday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to noon. Led by Frontier student Fintan Jones, a veteran of seven speedcubing competitions across three states, the workshop teaches participants how to solve the pyramid-style puzzle. Attendees will receive take-home instructions, a link to a custom YouTube tutorial, and a free pyramid cube while supplies last. Author Eliza Gouverneur to speak at Greenfield Public Library

Greenfield Public Library will welcome author Eliza Gouverneur on Thursday, June 25 at 2 p.m. in the library’s Conference Room, for a talk about her new book, “The Palm of Tyrants: a Mystery of Roman Palestine.” 

A retired librarian, Gouverneur has been writing since 1994. She is a graduate of the University of Rochester. She studied at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, Gratz College and with Marge Piercy at Elat Chayyim. She has also published “Kiddushin, or Toaster Oven Fire,” a book of poems.

Artspace to host exhibit reception for Danielle Lucier

Artspace Greenfield will celebrate the opening of local resident and art educator Danielle Lucier’s solo exhibition, “Green Light: A Love Letter to Greenfield,” with a public reception on Thursday, June 25, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Running through July 17, the multimedia showcase features acrylic paintings alongside custom lamps and ceramic wares inspired by the memories and locations of the town. Lucier, who also served as a featured artist for Greenfield’s sidewalk mural project, will have her work highlighted the following evening, Friday, June 26, during the monthly Arts Walk. This community event includes a guided downtown mural tour starting at 5 p.m. in front of City Hall, with the Artspace gallery remaining open for visitors immediately afterward. The Wendell Meetinghouse will host its next “Honoring Elders” celebration on June 28 at 3 p.m. to recognize the community contributions of longtime Wendell residents Kathleen Nolan and Josh Heinemann. Supported by the Wendell Cultural Council and organized by Gail Mason, the event celebrates Heinemann’s 22 years as a volunteer firefighter and local school bus driver, alongside Nolan’s service as a municipal town moderator, Council on Aging treasurer and founder of the Wendell Community Garden. Paint a gourd with artist Marsha Leavitt on June 27

The Greenfield Public Library will host a free “Paint a Little Gourd Ornament” workshop on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Makerspace. Led by artist Marsha Leavitt, the beginner-friendly class invites participants ages 13 and older to decorate tiny gourds for gifts, ornaments or jewelry. All supplies are provided by the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library. Attendees are encouraged to wear old clothes or bring an apron. The LAVA Center will host a 2 p.m. matinee performance of The Comedy Project Revue, titled “Old Hippies … New Hips: Reflections on Decaying in Place,” on Sunday, June 28. Produced by Andrea CK, the age-inclusive comedy showcase features stand-up sets and reflections on aging from veteran performers Henry Balzarini, Marian Kelner, David Bulley and Paul Bennett, alongside a live lip-syncing act. Shelburne resident to headline poetry showcase

ByWay Books & More in Brattleboro, Vermont, will host a free poetry showcase on June 27, from 4 to 6 p.m., featuring contributors to the anthology “The Country in the Mirror,” edited by Sharon Darrow and published by Rootstock Publishing. Headlining the reading is Shelburne Falls resident Martin Espada, a renowned poet and the first Latino to receive the Ruth Lily Poetry Prize. Espada is also a professor of poetry at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Other notable poets reciting include Rachel Hadas, who has received many awards including the Guggenheim Fellowship and an Award in Literature from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, and Chard deNiord, winner of the Pushcart Award and Poet Laureate of Vermont from 2015-2019.
