The Frontier girls cross country team showed why it’s a force to be reckoned with on Wednesday, hosting a meet with McCann Tech and Hopkins Academy. 

The Redhawks dominated the race with eight girls finding their way into the top 10 to earn a 15-49 win over the Golden Hawks and a 15-48 triumph over the Hornets. 

Abigail Howard was the first runner to complete the 2.75  mile course, doing so in a time of 18:42. The next four runners to finish were all wearing a Frontier jersey, with Leah Gump taking second (18:48), Nicole Plasse finishing third (19:35), Bianca Puera earning fourth (20:07) and Sasha Malo finishing fifth (20:26). 

Maia Christensen (eighth, 21:30), Mary Burt (ninth, 21:59) and Perla Ordaz (10th, 22:17) rounded out the top 10 finishers for the Redhawks. 

• Frontier was just as impressive on the boys side, earning wins over McCann (19-38), Hopkins (15-48) and Mahar (15-48) on Wednesday. 

The Redhawks had the top three runners, with Luke Howard taking first (16:08), Evan Hedlund finishing in second (16:40) and Erich Brown earning third (17:00). Amroy Maxey (sixth, 17:53) and Oliver Brown (eighth, 17:53) joined them in the top 10. 

Jeff LaPlante was the top Senator runner, taking 10th with a time of 19:16. Liam DiDonato took 11th (19:59) and Marshall Ames earned 15th (21:34) for Mahar. 

• Greenfield hosted Pioneer, Pope Francis and St. Mary’s for a cross country meet on Wednesday, with the Green Wave falling to Pope Francis, 23-32, but beating the Panthers, 29-38. The Cardinals beat Pioneer, 15-50. 

Greenfield’s Jackson Caron took second with a time of 21:29. Shane Toomey took fifth (23:15), Alex Scotera took sixth (23:56) and Cameron Casella finished seventh (24:12) for the Green Wave. Pioneer’s Griffin deRuiter took 10th (24:36). 

Both the Greenfield and Pioneer girls are not scoring teams. Rose Fortin took 13th for the Green Wave (33:59). 

• The Mohawk Trail cross country team traveled to Hampshire College on Wednesday for a meet against PVCICS, Southwick and Hampden Charter, with the Warrior boys beating Southwick and Hampden Charter but falling to PVCICS while the Mohawk Trail girls went 3-0 on the day. 

Vincent Gauthier (third, 19:05), Emmett Johnson (fourth, 19:37) and Tanner Biagini (10th, 22:01) were the Warrior boys in the top 10 while Natalie Lanoue (second, 23:36), Anya Read (third, 23:36), Valerie Bzomowski (23:41), Savannah Simmons (eighth, 26:29) and Katie Osterman (10th, 26:55) were the Mohawk Trail girls to crack the top 10. 

Boys soccer

Franklin Tech 7, PVCICS 0 — It was an explosive start for the Eagles, scoring five first half goals to cruise to a Tri-County League win on Wednesday. 

David Klempner-Siano was the star on offense, scoring three goals in the opening 40 minutes. Yolvin Ovalle-Mejia and Sam Lashtur also found the back of the net in the first half, with Robert Belval and Colin Adams recording assists.  

John Ramirez scored off a dish from Nik Martin while Brayden McCord tallied off an assist from Ovalle-Mejia in the second half.

Hopkins 4, Greenfield 0 — James Anderson, Patrick Fitzgibbons and Dominic Aloisi each had a goal in the opening 15 minutes while Teddy Cyr scored in the second half to lead the Golden Hawks to a Schmid League win over the Green Wave in Hadley on Wednesday. 

Daniel Pena-Chadee made 13 saves in the loss. 

Granby 1, Pioneer 0 — Jonathan Santiago scored with eight minutes left to lead the Rams past the Panthers in a Schmid League game on Wednesday. 

Girls soccer

Frontier 7, SICS 2 — The Redhawks built a 3-1 lead going into the half before tacking four more goals on the board in the final 40 minutes to earn a Pioneer North League win over the Bulldogs on Wednesday in South Deerfield. 

Jillian Worden led the offensive charge with a hat trick for Frontier. Maddie Fagan scored twice while Kylie Laford and Molly Gates also scored. Fagan (2), Hannah Mackin, Laford, Jazzlyn Hayes, Maddie Bennett and Sydney Tor had the Redhawk assists while Cady Wells-Robinson made four saves in the win.  

Palmer 2, Mahar 1 — Tied 1-1, the Panthers put one in  the back of the net three minutes into the second half. The goal stood as the game-winner, with the Senators falling in a Grieve League game in Palmer on Wednesday. 

Astha Bernard forced a turnover and blasted in a shot from 18 feet out with eight minutes to play in the first half for Mahar’s lone tally of the game. Alivia Patch made 12 saves — one a penalty shot — in the loss. 

“Palmer is an excellent team and for 78 minutes we played very responsibly keeping the play in front of us but it seemed every time we had a breakdown they converted,” Senator coach Chad Softic said. “I can’t say enough about Alivia Patch in net. She’s been huge for us and she allows us to play smart knowing she’s there to clean everything up. The girls played hard for 80 minutes and as a coach, that’s all you can ask for.”

Field hockey

Franklin Tech 5, Amherst 0 — Hannah Gilbert recorded a hat trick while Kate Trudeau scored twice to lead the Eagles past the Hurricanes on Wednesday. 

Southwick 1, Mahar 0 — The Rams had the lone tally of the game in the third quarter, with Daniel Glynn finding the back of the cage with 3:55 to go in the quarter as the Senators fell in a Valley League game in Southwick on Wednesday. 

Isabella Bisceglia made nine saves for Mahar. 

Westfield 4, Turners 0 — Elejandra Bartolon made 14 saves as the Thunder fell to the Bombers in a Valley League contest in Westfield on Wednesday. 

Volleyball

Greenfield 3, Mahar 1 — Lucy Karieva had six kills, one block and two aces, Karisma Santana smashed eight kills and nine aces while Addison Rotkiewicz tallied nine aces, two kills and two digs as the Green Wave earned a 25-14, 25-19, 21-25, 25-18 win over the Senators on Wednesday. 

Saylor Kegans had seven aces and a kill and Andelyz Colon-Gonzalez knocked five aces for Mahar. 

Franklin Tech 3, Pioneer 1 — Lillian Poirier put down four aces, dished five assists and made 11 digs as the Eagles picked up a 25-12, 25-11, 21-25, 25-10 victory over the Panthers in Turners on Wednesday. 

Faith Smith recorded three aces, six kills and two assists, Maria LaBelle smashed four kills and Lea Chapman tallied eight aces, one kill, two digs and a block for Franklin Tech. 

Emma Peterson had two kills, a block and five aces, Whitney Dunklee had three blocks and two kills, Avery Johnson tallied one kill, one block and two aces and Aiden Wall made seven digs in the loss. 

Wahconah 3, Turners 1 — The Thunder sufferered their first loss of the season, falling 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 26-24 to the Warriors on the road in a Northern League contest. 

Taylor Greene dished 22 assists, put down two kills and made five digs, Madi Liimatainen smashed 11 kills, five aces and came up with six digs, Madisyn Dietz had 10 digs and an ace and Abbi Holloway put down 14 kills and made four digs in the loss. 

Golf

Turners 16.5, Greenfield 7.5 — Joey Mosca finished as the match medalist after carding a 39, scoring three points in the No. 1 spot to help lift the Thunder past the Green Wave at the Country Club of Greenfield on Wednesday. 

Grady Deery (48) and Braedon Talbot (50) each scored four points in the win. Logan Addison (53), Jackson Day (54) and Reese Ewell (60) rounded out the Turners competitors. 

Dylan Archer carded the low score for Greenfield (44) while Matt Lavoine (53), Bryce Avery (46), Preston Lafleur (59), Tyler Zdanowicz (67) and Luke Scotera (63) all competed for the Green Wave. 

Franklin Tech 22.5, Easthampton 1.5 — Brady Booska was the match medalist with a 42 while Alex Sulda shot a 43 from the No. 2 spot to propel Tech to a victory at the Holyoke Country Club on Wednesday. 

Tyler Lafountain (53), Matt Marchefka (50), Dylan Young (48) and William Belval (49) each scored four points for Franklin Tech in the win. 

Belchertown 21, Frontier 3; Ware 15, Frontier 9 — The Redhawks competed in a tri-meet with the Orioles and Ware at the Cold Springs Golf Club in Belchertown, falling to the hosts  21-3 and Ware 15-9. 

Ryan Cetto (38), Alex Gochinski (45), Cam Skiffington (48), Cade Allenby (47),  Addy Wood (50) and Gabe Solodky (56) competed for Frontier. 

Deerfield Academy

Deerfield Academy’s boys and girls soccer teams opened their season on Wednesday, with the DA boys falling to Avon Old Farms, 1-0, and the Big Green girls losing to Brooks, 1-0. 

 Academy of Charlemont

The Academy of Charlemont competed in a meet at the Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter School on Wednesday with seven schools. Paloma Hsiao-Shelton took second while Ellis von Schoeler Ames (fifth) Lili Green (sixth), Sofia Mason (seventh), and Hadley Schiff (10th) joined her in the top 10.
