ORANGE — K-9 Zeus helped police officers track and arrest three juveniles on suspicion of breaking into vehicles early Thursday morning.

Authorities were dispatched to the area of Drew Boulevard and Oak Drive at 1:12 a.m. for reported vehicle break-ins. According to the Orange Police K-9 Unit’s Facebook page, officers working the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift arrived and saw three juvenile suspects flee into the woods. A perimeter was established and officers requested K-9 Zeus for tracking.

Zeus and his handler, Officer Kyle Johnson, responded and began a track from where one of the suspects abandoned a bicycle. K-9 Zeus led officers through backyards and woods, to a wooded area off of Oak Drive, where two of the suspects were reportedly hiding. Both were apprehended, and the third surrendered to police on Drew Boulevard.

The suspects reportedly broke into and stole items from at least 12 vehicles. According to the Orange Police K-9 Unit’s post, the majority of the stolen items were recovered and are being returned to the victims.
