I first heard the ubiquitous phrase “it is what it is” when Patriots Coach Bill Belichick used it about 15 years ago. I’m sure it was around before then.
I was recently reading a library book about the history of England and found out an English King (15th Century?) had embroidered on one of his tunics the phrase “it is what it is.”
So, I guess it is what it was. Or, it was what it is. Who knew?
