National news informs us that the U.S. government is going to dismiss select portions of student debt. All well and good. However, the taxpayer may be about to take a huge monetary slap-in-the-teeth! This gesture is optimistically designed to benefit this country by way of investment of those forgiven payments into personal, well-intentioned use of the windfall funds. Integrity. Those so qualified to receive this monetary kickback must enroll in a voluntary national, state or local government platform that will show their appreciation to the tax payer for their debt forgiveness. Community service programs may be an easy out for these people. Example: Debt of $10,000 paid off at $100 per hour for whatever platform is chosen. This equates to only 100 hours of payback time. This could be spread out over a fixed amount of time; let’s say, one year. Names and home locations of those included in the forgiveness program might be sent to their town, city government agencies. A forgiven debtor that chooses not to participate in this hypothetical program … sad. The taxpayer gets screwed … again!
