Author offering Saturday reading

GREENFIELD — Local author and illustrator Astrid Sheckels will read and talk about her new book, “Hector Fox and the Raven’s Revenge,” on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Greenfield Public Library.

After storytime, children can enjoy coloring their own woodland creature mask and enter for the chance to win a signed copy of the book. Copies will also be available for purchase. Families with children of all ages are welcome.

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Military Band, under the direction of Al Benjamin, will perform at Energy Park on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 7 to 8 p.m. Rain will cancel.

Monthly brown bag distribution set for Aug. 4

GREENFIELD — The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts’ monthly brown bag program for qualifying seniors will be held Thursday, Aug. 4, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Greenfield Senior Center at 35 Pleasant St.

According to a notice from Senior Center Activities Director Kathy Dunn, seniors who receive fuel assistance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits or other benefits will qualify. To apply, call the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts at 413-247-9738. Applications are also on hand at the Senior Center.

Senior Center screening two films in August

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Senior Center at 35 Pleasant St. will screen free movies in August. All films start at 1 p.m.

“Respect,” starring Jennifer Hudson, will be screened on Aug. 1, 5, 8 and 12, while “West Side Story,” the Oscar-winning film by Steven Spielberg, will be screened on Aug. 15, 19, 22, 26 and 29.

Farley String Band to perform at Senior Center

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Senior Center at 35 Pleasant St. will host a concert by the Farley String Band on Tuesday, Aug. 30, from 2 to 3 p.m.

While the concert is free and open to the public, registration is required by calling 413-772-1517, ext. 0 or stopping by the front desk.
