MONTAGUE — Two cyclists were taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield “due to the severity of their injuries” after being struck by a car along Turners Falls Road on Thursday, according to Kyle Cogswell, acting deputy chief of the Turners Falls Fire Department.
The incident occurred approximately 100 yards south of Hatchery Road, according to Cogswell. The Montague Center Fire Department was requested at 8:46 a.m.
The two responding ambulances — one from the Turners Falls Fire Department and one from American Medical Response (AMR) — each transported a single patient to Baystate Medical Center, Cogswell said.
“It was deemed that the trauma center was appropriate for them,” Cogswell said of the two cyclists’ condition, declining to comment with certainty whether the injuries are considered life-threatening.
Cogswell said he believes the driver of the vehicle was uninjured.
Cogswell said the Montague Police Department, which also assisted, is investigating the cause of the incident and whether criminal charges could be filed.
