Gavin Crossman and Arthur Fitzpatrick combined for seven solid innings on the mound, lifting West County sponsored by Davenport’s Mobil to an 8-3 win over Greenfield in a Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Sandy Koufax game on Wednesday in Buckland.

Crossman struck out three in three innings of work while allowing just two hits and no runs, while Fitzpatrick notched a strikeout in four innings of relief.

Offensively for West County, Cooper Whitney was 2-for-3 with a triple while Hunter Donohue and Fitzpatrick each had a pair of hits.

Post 81 Juniors

Caleb Thomas, Jackson Campbell and Trevor Kuchieski each pitched two innings to propel Greenfield Post 81 to a 12-0 victory over West Springfield in an American Legion Junior Division game on Wednesday.

Post 81 Seniors

It was a roller coaster for Greenfield Post 81 on Wednesday against Sheffield. 

Post 81 led 6-1 going into the sixth, but Sheffield rallied for six runs in the frame to take a 7-6 lead. 

Greenfield fought back in the bottom of the seventh, with Tyler Dubreuil hitting an inside-the-park home run to tie the game up. 

Ethan Quinn blasted a double, Ben Martino walked and MJ Paulin got on with a single to load the bases and Quinn scored on a passed ball to lift Greenfield to an 8-7 victory at Vets Field.

Adult softball

Greenfield Co-ed

Luis Melendez was 4-for-4 with two home runs, a triple and seven RBIs, lifting Thayer Street Builders to a 20-4 win over Ralph’s Blacksmith in a Greenfield Co-ed Adult Softball League contest on Wednesday.

Cheyenne Anderson was 4-for-5 to help aid Thayer, while Scott Curtis was 3-for-4 with a double and Kelly Salder had three hits and keyed the charge in the pitching circle.

Ralph’s Brandon Eckel smacked two hits.

PV Women’s League

Sam Sattin-Torres finished with three hits and knocked in the game-winning RBI to lift Conway to a 12-11 win over Ashfield on Tuesday in a Pioneer Valley Women’s Softball League contest. 

Jenelle Wilkins had three hits including a home run in the win. Kiley Bissell had four hits and three RBIs while Lyndsey Bennett knocked four hits in the loss. 

Golf

K of C League

Jim Koldis took top honors at the Knights of Columbus Golf League on Wednesday, posting a plus-8 point quota at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls.

Ron Lenois was closest to the pin on No. 7 (7-6) and Brian Browning was closest at No. 9 (14-10). Skins were won by Mike Waterman and Bill Roussel Sr.

League first-half winners were Ned Nichols and Ed Baker (both at plus-20), followed by Mark Matusz (plus-17) and Kent McGahan (plus-15).

Thomas Women’s League

Sally Malloy shot 41 to capture low gross honors at Wednesday’s Thomas Memorial Women’s League.

Janet Twyon posted a 25 to tie for low net honors with Debbie Puchalski. Closest to the pin winner on No. 7 was Leslie Heath (8-2).

Basketball

Drive League

Will Barnes scored 10 points to lift Orange to a 52-16 win over Franklin Tech on Tuesday in a boys varsity contest of the Drive League at Greenfield High School. Noah Ausikaitis scored six points in the loss. 

Max Millette finished with 13 points to lift Frontier to a 62-55 triumph over Northampton. Kelvin Perez recorded 12 points in the loss. 

To close out the night Jon Breor went off for 31 points while Caleb Murray tacked on 15 points as Greenfield raced away with a 68-36 win over Hatfield. Riley Intrator had 14 points for Hatfield in the loss. 

Deerfield Recreation

The Deerfield Recreation Department is hosting introductory tennis lessons on Tuesdays, beginning July 5 and ending on Aug. 9. The lessons run from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the tennis courts at Frontier High School. 

The lessons are open for those ages 8-12, with a minimum of 5 and maximum of 12 participants for each group. The cost is $48 for residents and $53 for non-residents. Players will go through skill drills and play games. You must supply your own tennis racket and water bottle. For registration forms, visit www.deerfieldma.us
