Historical Society hosting pie social, presentation

BUCKLAND — Michael Hoberman, professor of English literature at Fitchburg State University, will give a talk at the Buckland Historical Society’s pie social at the Buckland Public Hall on Upper Street on Friday at 7 p.m.

Admission is $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Masks will be worn during the talk, although attendees will be invited to take off their masks to eat pie.

Hoberman’s presentation will use materials from the Buckland Historical Society’s collection to tell a larger story about how literary fashions and movements of the 19th and early 20th century affected the lives of past generations of Buckland residents.

“While only a handful of people in any era actually become ‘famous writers,’” Hoberman wrote, “everyone who speaks practices a literary style and everyone who writes possesses a poetic imagination.”
