Powers Institute Museum to display military memorabilia

BERNARDSTON — The Powers Institute Museum will be open Sunday, June 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. with two attendants on hand.

According to a notice from Bernardston Historical Society President Louella Atherton, many military honors will be on display, including a minuteman signup for the Revolutionary War, Purple Hearts from both World War I and World War II, a Grand Army of the Republic flag, and the WWII sign that was displayed in Cushman Park for many years, listing the men and women from Bernardston who served and/or gave their lives.

“We remember with honor and pride all of the men and women who served in all wars and conflicts,” Atherton’s notice reads.

Ample parking is available behind the building at 20 Church St. The museum is elevator accessible.

Dixieland Stomp performing at Senior Center

BERNARDSTON — Dixieland Stomp will perform at the Bernardston Senior Center, located at 20 Church St., on Monday, June 6, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Dixieland Stomp performs high-energy, foot-stomping music. The sextet consists of Sheldon Ross on trumpet, Gene Bartley on trombone, Joe Sabol on trombone, Brian Williams on tuba, Bob Ferrier on banjo and George Baker on clarinet.

The concert, which is funded with help from a grant from the Bernardston Cultural Council, is free and open to the public.

St. Patrick’s Church offering brunch

NORTHFIELD — St. Patrick’s Church at 80 Main St. will hold a sit-down brunch on Sunday, June 19, following the 9 a.m. Mass.

Quiche, ham, doughnuts and more will be available. The meal costs $8 for adults and $3 for children under 12 years old.

To-go meals available June 24

NORTHFIELD — To-go meals of chef’s salad, a roll and pound cake with crushed strawberries will be available for pick-up at the Northfield Senior Center’s kitchen door on Friday, June 24, at 11:30 a.m.

There is a suggested donation of $5 per meal. Reservations must be made by calling the Senior Center at 413-498-2901, ext. 114 or emailing seniorcenter@northfieldma.gov by Monday, June 20.

Seniors learning to play Samba

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center is hosting games of Samba, a variant of Canasta, on Tuesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants are invited to observe and learn from an experienced group of players.

These games are in addition to the ongoing Bridge games, offered on Mondays from 1 to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon, according to a Senior Center newsletter.
