Senior Citizens Club having annual meeting

ORANGE — The Orange Senior Citizens Club plans to hold its annual installation meeting and luncheon at the Orange Senior Center, 62 Cheney St., at noon on Thursday.

Lunch will be served only to those who have made a reservation. Payment will be taken at the door and people are asked to bring cash. Water and coffee will be available; however, members may bring their own beverages if they choose. No alcoholic beverages are allowed.

A business meeting and installation service will follow lunch. Entertainment will be provided by Denis Cormier, who sings songs of Willie Nelson, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, The Mamas and the Papas, and more.

OIC hosting pitch night on Thursday

ORANGE — The Orange Innovation Center will host the second in a series of three Take the Floor Pitch Nights on the third floor at 131 West Main St. at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Partners include the Orange Innovation Center, LaunchSpace Inc., Greenfield Community College, Athol Credit Union and the major sponsor of the full series, Franklin First Federal Credit Union. Coordinators Max Fripp and Brianna Drohen are seeking local businesses to make their pitches. Participants must live in or have a business in Franklin County or the North Quabbin area and must be a creative, social or emerging entrepreneur.

Participants will get five minutes to pitch their idea to a panel and audience for a chance to win a $100 gift card door prize — sponsored by the Athol Credit Union — per industry sector, as well as a chance to advance to the final pitch event in June to win up to $10,000.

American Legion planning poppy drive, flag-placing

ORANGE — The Orange American Legion Auxiliary Unit 172 will hold its annual poppy drive at the Orange Walmart from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 5, May 6 and May 12.

Tentative plans for Memorial Day weekend flag-placing include: President Deb Barber and her husband and daughter at the West Orange, Holtshire, Jones and North Orange cemeteries on May 26 and May 27; and anyone willing to help at Central and South cemeteries on May 28.

Anyone who notices a veteran’s grave that has been missed is encouraged to call the American Legion at 978-544-6023.

Sunday graveside services are scheduled for May 29.

Friendly Town Socials & Sales to open Sunday

ORANGE — Friendly Town Socials & Sales, a hybrid second-hand store and small-group event room owned by resident Crystal Parent, is slated to hold its grand opening at 11 East Main St. from 1 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

There will be a 10% discount on all purchases, including event sign-ups. Light refreshments will be provided.

The business was intended to open in March 2020 as a youth drop-in center with workshops on life skills, but those plans changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quilts of Valor
presentation coming at Appalachian Trail talk on May 10

ORANGE — The North Orange Grange will have a program by Joe Young talking about his hike on the Appalachian Trail.

The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, at the Community Church of North Orange and Tully at 48 Main St.

The Grange will present a Quilts of Valor quilt to veteran Edward Day. Over the past several years, the Grange has presented four veterans with quilts to show their appreciation for their service.

Library Friends to hold book sale

NEW SALEM — The Friends of New Salem Public Library plan to hold a used book sale from 8 a.m. to noon during the townwide tag sale on the common on Saturday, May 14.
