Geological history presentation
coming to Town Hall

WHATELY — John Brady, a geoscience professor emeritus at Smith College, will hold a presentation at Whately Town Hall on Monday, April 18, at 3 p.m. to discuss the geological history of the town.

The event is co-sponsored by Valley Neighbors and the Whately Historical Society.

Whately Police offering lockbox installations

WHATELY — The Police Department is offering to install lockboxes at seniors’ homes free of charge.

A lockbox, containing a house key, can provide first responders with access to a home in case of an emergency. Dispatchers can notify responders of the lockbox code so they can access a senior’s home without needing to damage the door if the senior is unable to unlock it.

Presentation set on new senior housing complex

SOUTH DEERFIELD — The Franklin County Regional Housing & Redevelopment Authority will hold a presentation on Sanderson Place, the new senior housing complex in Sunderland.

The presentation will be held at the South County Senior Center’s temporary location at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church on Friday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m.

Sanderson Place, at 122 North Main St. in Sunderland, features 33 one- and two-bedroom apartments. All units can accommodate wheelchairs and have fully accessible bathrooms.

Applications for the complex will open later in April and the move-in period will occur during the fall and winter. To apply, the head of household must be age 62 or older.

Assistance on senior housing survey available

SOUTH DEERFIELD — Resident Lili Dwight will be at the South County Senior Center’s temporary location at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church on April 20, 27 and 29 from 11 a.m. to noon to help seniors fill out the town’s senior housing survey.

Shutesbury resident elected first VP

SHUTESBURY — Nicole Messier of Shutesbury was elected first vice president during a meeting of the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts’ board of directors on April 10.

According to a Girl Scouts press release, Messier is the program manager for a classified program at Raytheon in which she is responsible for $10 million in annual revenue. She is also an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
