Frontier’s Jack Vecellio continued his record breaking year by setting the new Frontier outdoor track and field school record in the pole vault on Friday.
Vecellio’s leap of 15 feet, 6 inches helped lead the Redhawks to a 121-16 victory over Pioneer in South Deerfield.
Vecellio also took first in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.9. Alex Schreiber won the shot put (31-11) and discus (93-11), Ian Burt won the long jump (17-1.25), triple jump (37-10) and 400 (56.4), Erich Brown won the high jump (6-0), 110 hurdles (21.5) and 800 (2:18.3), Aiden Dredge took the javelin (129-0), Ben Cachiguango won the 100 (13.0), Luke Howard won the mile (5:11.9) and Daniel Widmer captured the 2-mile in 11:16.
• The Redhawk girls took all but two events on Friday, with nine different girls earning first place finishes to pick up a 117-28 victory over the Panthers in South Deerfield.
Caroline Crocker won three events for Frontier, taking first in the long jump (14 feet, eight inches), 100 hurdles (16.5) and the 200 (28.6). Abigail Howard took first in the high jump (5-0) and 800 (2:45.1) and Alena Maes-Polan picked up victories in the pole vault (9-6) and 400 hurdles (77.4) for the Redhawks.
Micky McCarthy (shot put, 27-8), Lilly Novak (discus, 78-3), Sadie Ross (javelin, 77-7), Hannah Mackin (mile, 6:10), Josie Fosnot (400, 65.5) and Bianca Peura (2 mile, 14:28.9) rounded out the individual winner for Frontier on Friday. The Redhawks also won the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
Laila Heilman earned first in the triple jump (29-9) and Nina St. Clair won the 100 (13.4) for Pioneer.
• The Franklin Tech boys track team started its season on the right foot Friday afternoon.
Taking on Mohawk Trail, the Eagles — who co-op with Turners Falls — had four boys win multiple events to come away with an 80-58 triumph in a dual meet at Turners Falls High School.
Brayden McCord led the way with a trio of wins for Tech, taking first in the long jump (16 feet, three inches), triple jump (34-7) and the 100 (12.7 seconds). Brody Williams won the shot put (31-10.5) and javelin (100-8), Owen LaValley took the pole vault (8-6) and 400 hurdles (1:33.5) and Landen Hardy took first in the 110 hurdles (21.6) and 200 (27.1) for the Eagles. Greyson Rollins also picked up a first place finish in the discus (74-6) in the victory.
Dennis Simmons took first in the mile (5:23.6) and 2 mile (12:08) for Mohawk Trail. Chay Mojallali won the high jump (5-8), Emmett Johnson took the 400 (61.2) and Vincent Gauthier was first in the 800 (2:31.6) in the loss for the Warriors. Mohawk Trail won the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
• In the girls race, Mohawk Trail came away with a 117-28 victory over Turners Falls. Emmy Sissum won the 400 hurdles (79.7) and triple jump (30-3) while Savannah Simmons won the high jump (4-0) and triple jump (6-0) and Ellie Pinkham was the victor in the 400 (66.8) and 200 (30.6) for the Warriors in the win.
Linley Rollins won the discus (50-5) for the Thunder.
Chicopee Comp 3, Athol 0 — The Colts took the opening set 25-16 and didn’t look back, as the Bears fell in their opening match of the season.
Athol lost the second set, 25-22, and the third set, 25-14. Caleb LeBlanc was the top server for the Bears, putting 75 percent inbounds. Colin Mason had six attacks and one kill in the loss.
