The Frontier softball team crushed the ball on Wednesday against Smith Academy. 

Five of the Redhawks’ 11 hits were home runs, with Skyler Steele leading the way with a pair of homers to lead Frontier to a 13-1 victory in five innings in South Deerfield. 

Steele finished with three hits and four RBIs. Makayla Santos, Ashley Taylor and Delaney Fifield each hit a solo home run for the Redhawks (2-1) and all three knocked a single as well. Chloe Cutting and Hailey Hutkoski each hit safely in the win. 

Olivia Machon got the win in the circle, striking out five and allowing two hits in four innings of work. Cutting pitched the last inning and gave up just one hit. 

Greenfield 15, Hopkins 4 — Kaitlin Lavoine went 4-for-5 with a triple, a home run and six RBIs to lead the Green Wave to a 15-4 victory over the Golden Hawks in Hadley on Wednesday. 

Brielle Widelo also smashed a home run for Greenfield (2-0), hers bringing in a pair of runs. Ellis Benitez had four hits and an RBI, Carly Blanchard knocked a pair of hits and had two RBIs and Rachel Dodge had two hits and an RBI in the win. 

MacKenzie Paulin pitched the first four innings for the Green Wave, striking out six. Benitez came on for the final three innings, recording a pair of strikeouts. 

Deerfield scores

The Deerfield Academy boys lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season on Wednesday, defeating Berkshire, 9-5. 

The DA girls lacrosse team beat St. Mark’s, 10-8, in its home opener.
