A recent writer expressed dismay at U.S. Rep. Richard Neal choosing to support the health care industry that finances his campaigns over the people he is supposed to represent. But this is what the majority of people who came out to vote did vote for. When presented with a choice between a candidate that would work for health care for the people, and one funded by the health care industry, we said yes, we want the guy funded by the health care industry. We said yes, protect the financial interests of that health care industry. And really, the other guy was gay and was the target of unfounded allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior with college students, I mean it was all over the front pages of the newspapers just before the election. That, apparently, was a much more important issue than this health care stuff.

Do I sound discouraged? I am. If we, in Massachusetts, can’t elect someone to Congress that will fight for our interests, if our votes can be bought by corporate-backed politicians (and Neal is one of the best backed politicians), what hope is there for the country?
