Selectboard endorses Green Future Act

MONTAGUE — The Selectboard voted to support the Green Future Act during Monday’s Selectboard meeting by signing a letter of endorsement written by the Energy Committee. The letter asks the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy to vote favorably.

“Known as the Green Future Act, Massachusetts House Bill 3292 establishes a series of programs that invest in climate-friendly, green infrastructure in municipalities and environmental justice communities throughout the state,” Climate-XChange.org describes in an information packet submitted to the town. “The bill intends to complement the Next-Generation Roadmap Act (S.9), signed into law in March 2021, by providing funding for Massachusetts to meet increased emissions reduction goals for 2050.”

Selectboard plans for in-person
Annual Town
Meeting

MONTAGUE — The Selectboard agreed to pursue an in-person Annual Town Meeting May 7 in the auditorium of Turners Falls High School amid a decrease in the town’s positive COVID-19 cases.

“If the numbers continue the way they are, fantastic, and I think people will be OK,” Selectboard Chair Rich Kuklewicz said. “Otherwise, we can always pivot.”

The Selectboard left the option of holding the meeting outdoors open regardless of pandemic status, with Clerk Matt Lord arguing that nice May weather might make it a preferable choice.
