We are fortunate to live in Franklin County for many reasons — our surroundings, the seasons, the bounty from local farms and orchards, the maple syrup. There is also an inspiring tradition to celebrate the hearts and minds of the people of Franklin County, now in its 31st year: the annual Poet’s Seat Poetry Contest.

This contest, available to all adults who live in Franklin County and to students (ages 12–18) who attend a school in Franklin County, allows your voice to be heard and shared in a unique way. Through this contest and with your poems, we celebrate all that makes us human.

As proud sponsors of this contest, the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library invite you to submit your poems for consideration this year. Flyers detailing this contest have been distributed throughout the county; information can also be found on the Friends’ facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FriendsGPL/

This year‘s deadline is Tuesday, March 22. Poems may be submitted via email (send to: librarian@greenfieldpubliclibrary.org), snail mail (thanks US postal system!) or by dropping them off at the Greenfield Public Library at 402 Main Street, Greenfield, MA 01301

As spring emerges, we hope to celebrate in person as we have in the past. Information regarding the celebration will be forthcoming.
