The line chart shows COVID-19 cases continuing to skyrocket as more cases were registered in a two-week period than in any point since December 2020, according to data from the state Department of Public Health.
These two weeks saw 1,654 people test positive for the virus, nearly one-seventh of the 7,138 total cases found throughout the entire pandemic. According to the state data, 7,138 people have tested positive since numbers were first kept. Greenfield’s cases doubled from 211 to 463, leading Franklin County, while Athol leads the entire region with 499 cases. Montague and Orange’s cases also nearly doubled in this period to 240 and 225, respectively.
Nine people died due to the virus in Franklin County over these two weeks, the highest number of deaths since Dec. 27, 2020’s report.

■Walgreens at 5 Pierce St., Greenfield, MA 01301. Appointments are needed. Those looking to sign up must do so either at walgreens.com or using the Walgreens app.
■Baystate’s testing center, 33 Riddell St., Greenfield, MA 01301. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Call 413-795-8378 to make an appointment. A physician’s referral is required.
