TURNERS FALLS — A two-car accident at the intersection of L Street and High Street Thursday afternoon sent one driver to the hospital for treatment.
Dispatchers received the call at 3:55 p.m., according to Montague Police Officer James Ruddock. Turners Falls Fire Department, Montague Police and American Medical Response (AMR) responded.
The incident involved two drivers, a man and a woman, and two vehicles, a red Toyota Corolla and a white Nissan Versa. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
The extent of injuries is unknown, but Ruddock confirmed that at least one driver needed to be taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
“There was one person out of the vehicle walking around, alert,” Ruddock said.
The other driver had to be helped out by first responders. Ruddock said the Jaws of Life were not used.
“They were extricated from the vehicle by EMS personnel,” he said.
Airbags deployed in both vehicles, and both suffered extensive damage to their front bumpers. Both vehicles were towed by Rau’s Sunoco Service.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
