Greenfield, MA – Mary C. (Kingsbury) Shippee, 78, of Deerfield St., passed away at home with her family by her side on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
She was born in Greenfield, MA on December 25, 1947 the daughter of Alfred and Esther (Mahar) Kingsbury.
She was part-owner and bartender at the former Ray’s Café on Bank Row in Greenfield. She also tended bar at Russell’s, the Keg and Cork, and Mohawk Park.
She was a member of the Millers Falls Rod and Gun Club and the Mohawk Ramblers motorcycle club. She enjoyed going for rides with her husband Bob on his bike. She really loved going to the ocean, the beach, shopping, an occasional scratch ticket and her cigarettes.
She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and friend. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren always welcoming them with a smile, a hug and a kiss. She had a big heart for all her family and would provide for them any way she could. Although her family is heartbroken now, she told them she was ready to be with her husband again.
Her loving family she leaves behind include her son James Shippee, who lived and cared for her over the last 9 years, two daughters; Mellissa Sanders of Chester, VT and Jennifer Devlin of South Carolina, her grandchildren; Christopher Sanders, Stephine Gralenski, Alexander Brinster, Damien Shippee, Duncan Shippee, James Shippee Jr., Connor Shippee, Kayden Devlin and Jimi Devlin, 6 great grandchildren, her sister Peggy Carey of Leverett, MA, and several nieces and nephews.
