GREENFIELD — Coinciding with its first Saturday open for in-person browsing, the Greenfield Public Library is holding a backyard “party” to offer area families an opportunity to meet the new Youth Services Department staff.
From 10 a.m. to noon, families can meet Children’s Librarian Ellen Lavoie, her assistant Shannon Gilcreast and Teen Librarian Francesca Passiglia. Lavoie and Gilcreast started in their roles earlier this spring, with Lavoie following in the footsteps of Kay Lyons, who announced her retirement in January after almost 30 years at the library.
“This is really the first chance for people to come out and meet us, and to find out about our programming and what’s going on at the library,” said Passiglia, who has been with the library for almost six years.
The teen librarian position is new this year, she said, as the city prepares for the move into a new building.
“We’re trying to offer some more downtown activities for teenagers,” she said.
Saturday’s event will include prizes, arts and crafts and other activities offered to youths up to 18 years old, as well as the unveiling of the new summer reading mascot, Passiglia said. Children will get to vote on the name.
