MILLERS FALLS — A new marijuana company planning to base its administrative office at 41 East Main St. will hold a community outreach meeting with the Montague Planning Department on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The company, GreenHouse Cannabis Group, provides a web-based delivery service for recreational marijuana. The office in Millers Falls will just be a business office, with no product or cash on site.

The online meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. Information to access the meeting is on montague-ma.gov, in the calendar of public meetings.

According to Greenhouse CEO Joseph Price, the company will provide technology to coordinate deliveries, which will be used throughout Massachusetts. The Millers Falls business office will be used to manage the web-based delivery service. Three people — Price included — will work out of the office.

“I’ve been telling people since Day 1 — we’re not a marijuana business. We’re a technology business in the marijuana industry,” Price said. He described his company as “the DoorDash of recreational cannabis.”

If its plans receive the necessary approval, GreenHouse will be one of the first cannabis delivery companies in Massachusetts, as the state Cannabis Control Commission has only recently started licensing such businesses.

The courier-like model that GreenHouse will be using is the first type of license being issued. Price explained the Cannabis Control Commission is also working toward offering licenses for online retail and delivery (more like Amazon).

Price has worked in various capacities in technology startup businesses in Boston, especially with on-demand services involving delivery and logistics. He has started other companies that connect businesses with payment services, patients with medical specialists and valets with drivers.

Even though cannabis is not handled or sold on site, the same permitting process applies as with any cannabis company in Massachusetts. Next week’s community outreach meeting is part of GreenHouse’s permitting requirements with the town, along with a host community agreement that is being discussed. The plans must then be approved by the Cannabis Control Commission.

“The company chose to locate in Montague because we have a reputation as a community that’s easy to do business with,” noted Montague Town Planner Walter Ramsey.

Price expects GreenHouse to be operational by the end of 2020, or possibly as soon as late November.
