NORTHFIELD — A filmed discussion with the two candidates vying for a three-year term on the Selectboard will be held Friday at 1 p.m.
The Northfield Area Tourism and Business Association (NATABA) is presenting the discussion, which was organized with the help of the Northfield Kiwanis Club and Northfield resident Judy Phillips. Joan and Steve Stoia, founders of NATABA, said the event will “maintain the annual tradition of educating the town’s electorate with a chance to meet the candidate in a non-traditional session.”
Candidates Barbara Jacque and Joseph Stacy are campaigning for the seat being vacated by Tracy Rogers. Both candidates will present their qualifications and will answer questions during the conversation moderated by John MacDougall. The discussion will be held at the pavilion behind Town Hall, but it is not open to the public as a result of the ongoing health crisis.
“Historically, Kiwanis or NATABA have sponsored this as a public event,” Steve Stoia said. “We see it as our role as civic organizations to try to make candidates who are going to have power be accessible to the public.”
The discussion will be filmed by Bernardston-Northfield Community Television. While it will not be livestreamed, the video will be available on BNCTV’s Facebook page or BNCTV.net soon after taping.
BERNARDSTON — Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Selectboard on Wednesday determined it was “inadvisable” to open the Powers Institute Museum this year.
The museum is usually open on the first Sunday of each month.
Selectboard members expressed concerns with an inability to maintain social distancing and follow health safety guidelines. This was coupled with the fact that entry to the museum is only through the Senior Center, which remains closed.
