WHATELY — Town Clerk Lynn Sibley is in need of poll workers for the June 9 town election.
“My regular election workers have indicated … they don’t want to work this particular election,” Sibley said on Wednesday.
The election will take place June 9 from noon to 6 p.m. at Whately Elementary School at 273 Long Plain Road.
Sibley said she is looking for three workers in addition to the three she already has.
“Anyone who is a registered voter can be an election worker,” she said, noting residents between the ages of 16 and 18 years old, regardless of whether they are registered voters, are also eligible.
The position pays minimum wage and workers are expected to be at the polling station from noon to 6 p.m., as well as about two hours afterward to count ballots.
Sibley said she has already received more than 150 applications for early voting, which she said is more than the total number of voters in the last two elections.
“The only issue I am having is finding some election workers,” she said.
With the large number of early voting applications, Sibley expects in-person voting to be relatively minimal.
For more information about becoming a poll worker, interested residents can contact Sibley at 413-665-4400, ext. 3 or townclerk@whately.org.
