WHATELY — The missing Whately woman found dead inside a River Road house Tuesday had been held at the Franklin County jail on three probation violations before she was released by the Greenfield District Court’s Probation Department four days before her disappearance, according to Sheriff Christopher Donelan.
The body of Katelyn Gralinski, 35, was found at 311 River Road and removed from the scene by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which will determine the cause of death through an autopsy.
Northwestern District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Mary Carey said investigators are awaiting the medical examiner’s complete findings, including toxicology results, which could take several weeks.
Gralinski was reported missing March 27. She had last been seen in the River Road area between roughly 2:30 and 3:30 a.m. that day, according to police.
Donelan was unsure why Gralinski was released.
The Whately Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detectives Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office responded to the River Road house at roughly 7:30 p.m., Carey said.
The Whately Fire Department also went to the scene for a small fire unrelated to Gralinski’s death, Carey said.
Whately Fire Chief John Hannum said his crew was dispatched to the fire at Manheim Farm at 7:48 p.m. and was joined by the South Deerfield, Conway, Sunderland and Hatfield fire departments.
The fire was knocked down at around 8 p.m. Hannum said the fire was caused by papers left on a halogen light.
