NORTHFIELD — The Pioneer Valley Regional School District School Committee officially approved having Superintendent Jonathan Scagel explore regionalization efforts with neighboring districts during last week’s meeting.
While aware that Scagel and select members of the committee had opened discussions with the Gill-Montague and Greenfield school districts, the School Committee had not given official approval as a body. After the approval, member David Young said he felt more comfortable continuing conversations.
NORTHFIELD — Pioneer Valley Regional School District School Committee Chair Kristen Gonzalez reported during last week’s meeting that those who had filed complaints against School Committee member David Young “wished to no longer move forward” and the matter is closed without action.
The complaints lodged against Young were made by fellow committee members Sharon Fontaine and Mike Townsley, as well as district Finance Director Tanya Gaylord. The written complaints cited “concerns about the aggressive behavior” and “actions made by” Young during a Budget Subcommittee meeting and full School Committee meeting on Sept. 12.
During its Nov. 14 meeting, the School Committee began an executive session to discuss the complaints, with Young then exercising his right to open the executive session to the public. However, the committee did not have enough copies of the complaints for all its members to review at the time, and had decided to postpone a full, formal conversation of the complaints until the Dec. 12 meeting.
