BERNARDSTON — Charlie Malcolm, teacher and soccer coach at Northfield Mount Hermon School, will lead the Great Decisions Foreign Policy discussion at the 1739 Bernardston Unitarian Meetinghouse this Sunday, Oct. 20, at 11:30 a.m. Malcolm returns by popular demand to lend his expertise on current U.S. foreign policy developments. Malcolm’s depth of understanding and analysis will be most helpful to our grappling with the present world situation. All are welcome to join in the conversation. Oct. 24: A film about Palestine children
ASHFIELD — The First Congregational Church (UCC) of Ashfield is hosting a film made by the United Church of Christ’s Palestine Israel Network titled, “How Are the Children? A film about Palestinian Children in Israeli Military Detention — Part I.” (41 minutes, 2018). The film will be shown on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. The wider community is welcome, and refreshments will be served.
The United Church of Christ during its 2017 General Synod approved a resolution to support the Palestinian people. This documentary film is part of a curriculum developed by the national organization to detail how Palestinian children are systematically arrested and abused while in Israeli military custody.
The event is free. A Q&A will follow the film. Part 2 may be shown at a later date.
DEERFIELD — The Brick Church Music Series will present William Porter, internationally renown organist, in a concert at The First Church of Deerfield, 71 Old Main St., on Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. There is a $10 to $20 suggested donation at the door with a reception following in the Caswell Library at Deerfield Academy.
Porter gave the Dedicatory Recital on this tracker organ, built by Richards, Fowkes Organ Co., in 2004. His program will include music by J.S. Bach, Georg Bohm, and an improvised demonstration of the stops of the organ.
