It was my pleasure until a short time ago to be a part-time librarian of Greenfield Public Library, and I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the staff and patrons of the library. I feel very fortunate to have made many wonderful library friends and to have had so many interesting discussions over the past four years. And the staff – ah, the staff – brilliant, helpful, forward thinking, passionate about their work – the list of accolades could go on for a very long time. Library people are serious about their work, but they are also fun and funny, as intelligent people are wont to be. My heartfelt thanks to you all.

The second part of this letter is simple: A new library, yes! The library has an important mission and needs a new home so that the mission can continue. Every patron needs to have a facility that is accessible and meets the growing needs of the community. The staff absolutely deserves to have a home that enables them to continue to do the jobs they do so well and to serve that community. With funding almost half the cost, the need for a new fire station, and the growth of downtown, a new library becomes a win-win-win situation.

Working at the Greenfield Public Library was a wonderful experience because of the people involved. Thank you all once again. Greenfield is a fine place to live, so let’s keep growing and getting better. A new library will be the right step in the right direction.
