GREENFIELD — Four teenagers, three of them not of legal driving age, were arrested shortly after midnight Monday for stealing a car.

A 16-year-old, a 15-year-old and two 14-year-olds were stopped by a Greenfield Police officer in the parking lot at 1 Arch Place at 12:42 a.m., and one of the 14-year-olds admitted to stealing the gray 2010 Mazda 3 sedan they were in, according to police logs.

All were taken into custody on charges of larceny of a motor vehicle. One of the 14-year-olds faces two such charges. All occupants besides that 14-year-old also face a charge of receiving a stolen motor vehicle. No names were released.

The suspects were transported in pairs to the police department for booking. Lt. William Gordon of the Greenfield Police Department said the teenagers are Greenfield residents and were released to their respective parents.

Gordon said the vehicle was returned to its owner, who lives on Harris Court. The lieutenant was unaware of any damage the vehicle sustained.

Gordon urges all residents to lock the doors of their vehicles and homes to help deter crime.
