The Pioneer Valley Regional volleyball team dropped a home match against Taconic, 3-0, on Saturday morning in an independent contest played as part of Homecoming at Messer Gymnasium in Northfield.
Set scores were 25-16, 25-7 and 25-10.
“They are quite a bit larger than we are and seemed to have a little more power,” Pioneer coach Kathy Malsh said of Taconic. “Tough team.”
The Panthers (1-12) had some early leads, but could not maintain them once Taconic went to the service line.
“We had a hard time receiving,” Malsh said. “The first game was our strongest. We kind of battled back.”
Abby Briggs had two aces and a kill while Emily Tibbetts contributed three aces and a dig.
Alana Redeker led Pioneer with four kills and added two digs.
The Panthers host Athol High School on Tuesday. The Red Raiders swept Pioneer on Sept. 4.
“We’ve gotten a lot more stronger and more consistent,” Malsh said. “We have better communication and are tracking the ball better, learning to be more proactive on movement. We are a lot more confident going into Athol.”
