GREENFIELD — Greening Greenfield is continuing its campaign to inspire people to plant native flowers, trees and shrubs while building habitats for insects, birds and other wildlife with a presentation on fall planting on Wednesday.
Steve Jackson, horticulturist and plant coordinator for Nasami Farm in Whately, will give a free talk at the First Congregational Church, 43 Silver St., at 6:30 p.m. Questions will be encouraged, and refreshments will be served.
According to a Greening Greenfield press release, Jackson is a graduate of the School of Professional Horticulture at the New York Botanical Garden, where he also earned a landscape design certificate. He has worked at public gardens and private estates throughout the Northeast.
“Fall planting of trees and shrubs can be preferable to planting in the spring” Jackson said. “Cooler days, higher rainfall and warm soil all make for great conditions for the gardener who wants to extend their planting season and get a jump on the season ahead.”
After Jackson’s presentation, Greening Greenfield’s next talk will be “Fall Gardening for Pollinators, Helping Bees & Butterflies Survive Winter,” by Larri Cochran, on Wednesday Oct. 2. For more information, visit greeninggreenfieldma.org.
