Roxann Wedegartner values social justice, and knows how to apply these values locally. She was on the board of Tapestry for many years, advocating for reproductive health and HIV testing and prevention services when both were extremely controversial. She’s passionate about combating climate change, illustrated as chair of the Sustainability Master Plan, a process that produced Greenfield’s sustainability blueprint. We’ve seen specific outcomes like Green Communities Grants, LED streetlights, and 27% energy savings city-wide. She cares about the welfare of citizens facing homelessness and proposes making the Greenfield Affordable Housing Project permanent.
Roxann’s a fierce educational advocate, having served six years on the School Committee, three as chair, the only candidate with such experience. She is understanding of students’ needs, and knowledge that the schools are more than budgetary dollar signs.
Roxann’s the only candidate with experience bringing business to Greenfield, serving on the Planning Board for 16 years, a board instrumental in steering development. Expanding business expands the tax base, the way to ease tax burden. She’s pro-library, knowing this fiscally responsible opportunity comes once in a blue moon. She’s knowledgeable about Greenfield’s aging infrastructure, and understands projects that need addressing, like sewer upgrades and the anaerobic digester that will bring in revenue.
Roxann has relationships with lawmakers, and experience advocating in Boston. Other candidates name legislators on the stump, but they do not have the real relationships Roxann does. She’s already formulating her plans to collaborate with legislators.
Roxann displays leadership. A Mayor must navigate discussions with people from many backgrounds, and make tough decisions some find unpopular. She’s done this, been decisive through controversial decisions and kept order during heated debates. I have personally benefited from Roxann’s ability to be a skilled mentor.
September 10, vote for RoxannWedegartner for mayor.
