For the first time in her golfing career, Nancy Donoghue needed just one shot to finish a hole on Friday.
The Greenfield resident sank her first-ever hole-in-one, recording an ace on the second hole at the Country Club of Greenfield.
Donoghue used a 7-iron from 122 yards out to accomplish the feat, which was witnessed by Ross Anderson and Doc Fusonie.
Shelburne Falls results
Thursday at the Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley, Dan Brisson rolled the men’s single high score of 138, while Tami Garland had the women’s high single score of 101, as well as the women’s high triple of 293.
Eric Wasileski rolled the men’s high triple of 330.
Montague Co-Rec
Turners Falls Pizza House beat Business and Pleasure, 14-1, at Unity 2 in Montague Co-Rec playoff action Thursday.
Todd Wiles was 4-for-4 and scored three runs, while getting the win on the mound, tossing a three-pitch inning.
Kelsey Malloy was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Frank Stumpo was 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the victory.
For Business and Pleasure, Josh Lashway was 1-for-3 with a run, Danny Shedd was 2-for-3 and Emma Connolly was 3-for-3.
Valley Storm tryouts
The Valley Storm Softball program is looking to expand in 2020 by adding a 10U team, and one additional tryout date has been added to help finalize the roster.
Also, the Valley Storm 14U team is looking to add 2-3 more players to their roster, with multi-position players and utility players preferred.
The tryout for both teams is Sunday at Merritt Field at Sunderland Elementary School from 2-4 p.m. Interested players should send an email of interest, including player’s name, date of birth, played position(s) and school district.
Players must be age 10 or younger as of Dec. 31, 2019 to be eligible for the 10U team and must be age 14 or younger as of Dec. 31, 2019 to be eligible for this 14U team.

F.C. Babe Ruth
Franklin County Babe Ruth League signups for the Fall Ball Program run today from 11 a.m. until noon.
All registrations will be held at Abercrombie Field in Greenfield. The registration fee is $85 for the first player, then $75 for a sibling.
The league is open to 12, 13 and 14 year olds as of April 30 and is a program for players who wish to extend their summer baseball season and gain experience on a full-size, 90-foot diamond.

GHS field hockey car wash
The three-time defending WMass champion Greenfield High School field hockey team will hold a fundraising car wash on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Shell Station on the Mohawk Trail next to China Gourmet.
The money raised will go toward new equipment.
Greenfield Rec
The Greenfield Recreation Department is offering youth soccer programs for Grades K-6 this fall. The deadline to register is Friday, Aug. 30. A $5 late fee will be assessed for all late registrations.
Pee wee soccer is for boys and girls grades K-2. This small field 3-vs-3 soccer program introduces passing, dribbling and shooting skills with weekly instruction and scrimmage, taking place Saturdays, Sep. 7 through Oct. 19 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Green River Swimming Area. Players must wear shin guards, sneakers or soccer shoes (no cleats). The fee is $30 for residents, $35 for non-residents.
Travel Soccer Jr. Division is for grades 3-4 and Sr. Division is for grades 5-6. Each division builds on passing, dribbling, and shooting skills. Practices will be held one night a week with games on Saturday. The practice and game schedule will be announced at a later time. It runs on Saturdays, Sep. 7 through Oct. 19. from 9-10:15 a.m. Teams travel to surrounding towns including Montague, Erving, Northfield, Vernon, Gill etc. Players must wear shin guards and mouth guards; cleats are not required. The fee is $45 for residents, $50 for non-residents.
